Someone called in bomb threats to two Lake Street stores within minutes of each other on the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 18, targeting a store at 7525 Lake St. in River Forest and the Target at 1129 Lake St. in Oak Park.

The River Forest call came at 7:50 p.m., according to the River Forest Police Department's weekly incident summary. Oak Park police received a similar call 16 minutes earlier, at 7:34 p.m., per the Oak Park PD's summary report.

In the Oak Park call, an unknown male told police he had explosives and a gun and was on his way to the Target store. Oak Park PD classified that call as disorderly conduct. River Forest PD classified its call as a bomb threat.

Neither threat was real.

No arrests have been made in connection with either call. The two stores sit on the same Lake Street corridor, separated by the municipal boundary between Oak Park and River Forest.

Other incidents: Aug. 12–18, 2026

The River Forest log listed 14 incidents for the week. Among the most serious:

Aggravated battery on a peace officer: Reports #26-01093 and #26-01094 document an aggravated battery on a peace officer combined with an outside warrant arrest during the Aug. 12–18 period. The department did not release further details, including a date, location or suspect name.

Fleeing and eluding: At 9:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, an unknown driver fled a traffic stop in the 800 block of Thatcher Ave. Police located the vehicle and towed it per department policy.

Burglary: At 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16, an unknown offender entered an unlocked detached garage in the 600 block of Park Ave. and removed tools. The investigation is ongoing.

DUI: Osvaldo Cayetano, 22, of Chicago, was stopped at 3:56 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 15 at 7201 North Ave. for vehicle code violations and released on citation and notice.

Domestic battery: Juan G. Gonzalez, 34, of Chicago, was arrested at 2:33 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 16 in the 700 block of Harlem Ave. and transported to a detention hearing.

Warrant arrest: Willie L. Jackson Jr., 30, of Chicago, was stopped at 7:17 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 17 at 7525 Lake St. during a theft investigation, released on citation and notice, then transported to the Cook County Department of Corrections on a Cook County warrant.

The 7525 Lake St. address appeared in four separate incidents during the week: a retail theft on Aug. 13, the warrant arrest on Aug. 17, a bike theft and the bomb threat on Aug. 18.

All persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
