Forest Park police found a loaded semiautomatic handgun, cocaine and cannabis in a man's backpack after a bike stop near Madison Street and Harlem Avenue.
Officers on patrol around 1 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 6, stopped the rider for lacking a front headlight, a state and local violation, according to Forest Park Review police reports. The man said he had no identification and paused before giving a fake name and birthday, police said.
He then ran.
Police chased and tased him. The 20-year-old repeatedly tensed his body and kicked during the arrest, causing cuts and abrasions to several officers' hands, according to the report. Oak Park and River Forest police helped detain him.
He was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, armed violence, delivery and possession of controlled substances, and three counts of resisting an officer. Additional charges include obstructing identification, driving without lights, and an in-state warrant for aggravated battery with a firearm.
Library trespasser arrested after 12th return
In a separate incident, Forest Park police arrested a man at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, after the Forest Park Public Library reported he had come back for the 12th time since receiving a three-year suspension the previous year.
A staff member told police the man had thrown books at employees and made threats during earlier visits. Officers reviewed surveillance footage and found him on Harlem Avenue. He pulled away as they tried to handcuff him.
A search at the station turned up two debit cards bearing other people's names. The man told police he is homeless, usually stays in Chicago, and knew about the suspension. He was charged with criminal trespassing, resisting an officer, and two counts of possessing a lost debit or credit card, plus an in-state warrant.
All charges in both cases are allegations. No court dates have been announced.
