An Oak Park man faces four criminal charges and a federal parole violation warrant after officers stopped him on the 400 block of S. Cuyler late on Wednesday, July 22.
Antoine M. Gibson, 46, of the 900 block of Washington in Oak Park, was arrested at 10:51 p.m. and charged with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident, possession of a controlled substance, and damage to village property, according to the OPD activity report covering July 22–23. Officers discovered Gibson had an active warrant from the U.S. Marshals Service for a parole violation. The case is logged as complaint 26-03969.
Gibson's arrest was one of three that day.
At 7:44 a.m., Cortez Tarver, 51, of the 800 block of Washington in Oak Park, was taken into custody on the 1000 block of Lake on an active Cook County warrant for retail theft. Tarver was additionally charged with obstructing identification (complaint 26-03947).
At 11:30 a.m., Keshaun B. Mayfield, 27, of the 3200 block of W. Maypole in Chicago, was arrested on the 700 block of S. Maple for violating an order of protection. The victim is identified in the report only as a Chicago resident (complaint 26-03951).
Property crimes
Between midnight and 6 a.m. on July 22, someone entered an unlocked Hyundai Sonata on the 1200 block of N. Austin and took a black backpack containing a silver Apple iPad and a silver magnetic keyboard, according to the OPD report. The vehicle belongs to an Oak Park resident. The estimated loss was not determined (complaint 26-03967).
On the 1100 block of S. Boulevard, a 2011 Mazda 3 belonging to a Bellwood resident sustained $4,500 in damage to its rear bumper and other areas between 6:55 a.m. and 4:48 p.m. The suspect and method are unknown (complaint 26-03968).
A separate retail theft occurred at the Walgreens at 811 Madison St. around 1:30 p.m. An unidentified man removed multiple household goods and left without paying. Estimated loss: $72.94 (complaint 26-03956).
What comes next
The OPD activity report notes that all individuals charged have pending court dates; specific dates were not listed. All defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
The Oak Park Village Board is expected to take up a related public safety matter at its Tuesday, July 28 meeting: a draft policy restricting pretextual traffic stops, which the board voted unanimously on Tuesday, July 21 to begin developing within 60 days. Village Manager Kevin Jackson said at that meeting that a preliminary draft is already prepared for review.
