Oak Park families heading to Oaktoberfest in September will find a bigger Kids Root Beer Garden, a second performance stage and a satellite bar for parents who want something stronger than root beer.

The 34th annual fall festival returns to Marion Street and North Boulevard on Friday, Sept. 25, and Saturday, Sept. 26, according to the Downtown Oak Park Business Alliance. Admission is free both days. Friday hours run 4 to 10 p.m.; Saturday opens at noon and closes at 10 p.m.

New this year, the alliance is selling a pre-sale bundle online for $59 that includes two souvenir cups, four drink tickets and a limited-edition tote bag. The alliance values the package at $75. Bundles are available online only, while supplies last.

The expanded Kids Root Beer Garden takes over Saturday from noon to 5 p.m. with zucchini races, root beer floats, a balloon artist and an obstacle course. A second stage, sponsored by the Oak Park Area Arts Council, will feature dance performances throughout the afternoon.

Adjacent to the kids' zone, a satellite bar will serve adult beverages, letting parents grab a craft beer without leaving the family area.

"We want to make sure our guests have an amazing time, and that for us means live music, a new menu of craft beers and beverages, delicious food, and fun for the entire family," executive director Shanon Williams said in a statement.

On the main stage, Austin swamp-funk band Shinyribs headlines Friday night and big band reggae group The Resolvers closes out Saturday. Both headliners perform 8:30 to 10 p.m., with music curated by Robert's Westside.

The drink menu includes seasonal picks like Leinenkugel Oktoberfest and Riggs Brewing alongside alternatives such as Señorita THC Margarita and Right Bee Dry Hard Apple Cider.

Sponsors backing the two-day event include J. Blanton Plumbing, Novick Orthodontic, Byline Bank, Elite Remodeling Group, Oak Park Area Arts Council, REEG Plumbing and Collaboration for Early Childhood. The festival is located south of Lake Street in downtown Oak Park.

Pre-sale bundles can be purchased at oaktoberfest.net ahead of the Sept. 25 opening.
