The Ernest Hemingway Foundation of Oak Park has posted its fall lineup, starting with a Sept. 27 walking tour that caps at 15 people.
The schedule, listed on the Foundation's programs page Saturday, Aug. 29, centers on the Hemingway Birthplace Museum at 339 N. Oak Park Ave. A Sunday, Aug. 30 walking tour already sold out, and several events have limited capacity.
Walking tour: Sept. 27
The next "In Ernie's Footsteps" walking tour is set for Sunday, Sept. 27. The 90-minute outdoor route, led by Dr. Nancy Sindelar, author of "Influencing Hemingway: The People and Places That Shaped His Life and Work," stops at the Birthplace Museum, Hemingway's boyhood home, Oak Park and River Forest High School, the Oak Park Public Library, Congregational Church and the World War I memorial in Scoville Park. Each ticket includes a copy of Sindelar's book. The tour requires advance reservations.
Write In Wednesday: Sept. 30
The Foundation's 2026–2027 writer-in-residence, Amelia Estelle Dellos, will lead a "Write In Wednesday" session on Sept. 30 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the museum. Dellos, a writer, filmmaker and managing editor of Unwoven Literary & Arts Magazine, will guide participants through goal mapping, timed writing sprints and optional read-alouds. Tickets are $20 and space is limited.
Haunted Hemingway: Ghost Stories
The Friday@Hemingway's series will feature "Haunted Hemingway: Ghost Stories," an evening of literary ghost stories read at the Birthplace from 7 to 9 p.m. The confirmed lineup includes Ananda Lima, program curator and core faculty at StoryStudio Chicago and author of "Craft: Stories I Wrote for the Devil"; Juan Martinez, associate professor at Northwestern University and author of the novel "Extended Stay"; Joe Meno, winner of the Nelson Algren Literary Award and author of "Hairstyles of the Damned"; and Wendy Parris, author of the 2025 Illinois Reads pick "Stage Fright." An exact October date had not been posted as of Sept. 2.
Youth fiction workshops
Nat Holtzmann, a lecturer at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago whose debut story collection "Slight" was published by TEMPER Press in 2025, will teach fiction writing workshops for rising students in three tracks: rising 6th graders, rising 7th–8th graders and rising 9th–12th graders. Enrollment is $250 per workshop, with a maximum of 10 students and a minimum of eight. The Foundation reserves the right to cancel and refund if enrollment falls short. The high school track runs six Monday evenings. Specific session dates had not been listed as of Sept. 2.
