Homeowners, landlords and business owners who have restored or maintained Oak Park properties can now be nominated for the village's annual Preservation Awards, with submissions due by Friday, Oct. 9.

The Historic Preservation Commission picks the winners each year, recognizing work across several categories: restoration, rehabilitation, adaptive use, additions/new construction, stewardship, detail and design.

Eligible property types span single-family homes, apartment buildings, commercial buildings, religious structures and public or institutional buildings, according to the Wednesday Journal. Projects must have been completed within the past five years and must be located in Oak Park, but they do not need to sit within a designated historic district.

Interior work counts, too, when submitted alongside exterior improvements.

The Village of Oak Park announced the nomination window Saturday, Aug. 22. An online nomination form is available at www.oak-park.us/preservationawards.

A home on Euclid Avenue won a Preservation Award in 2025, according to the Wednesday Journal. Residents interested in the village's other recognition programs, including the Cavalcade of Pride and Sustainability Awards, can find details at www.oak-park.us/communityawards.

The Historic Preservation Commission is scheduled to meet Thursday, Aug. 27, at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at Village Hall.
