A woman was shot and killed on the 1100 block of Lyman Avenue in Oak Park just after midnight on Nov. 1.

Oak Park police responded to the call at 12:29 a.m. and found the woman with multiple gunshot wounds, according to Oak Park's Wednesday Journal. Officers administered life-saving measures until paramedics arrived. She was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood and pronounced dead at 12:57 a.m.

Investigators found approximately 29 shell casings at the scene, ABC 7 reported. A preliminary review of Ring camera footage showed two rounds of shots fired, police said.

The woman was wearing a Halloween costume. She was with a male companion, and the two were apparently arguing before the man produced a gun and opened fire, according to the Wednesday Journal.

The identities of both the victim and the alleged offender remain unknown, according to a village spokesperson. Oak Park detectives are actively pursuing all leads.

The shooting came hours after Oak Park police had deployed dozens of officers across the downtown area on Halloween evening. That heavy presence, stretching from Harlem to Kenilworth avenues, was aimed at preventing a repeat of a teen takeover that disrupted the area one year earlier, according to a separate Wednesday Journal report. As of 6:30 p.m., there were no indications of major clusters of teens downtown.
