Four vehicles were stolen in Oak Park between Thursday, Sept. 24, and Monday, Sept. 28, with at least $58,000 in combined losses.

The Oak Park Police Department's summary report for the period logged the thefts alongside a weapon possession arrest, a domestic battery arrest and multiple property damage incidents.

Two of the thefts carried a combined estimated loss of $58,000. A white 2020 Acura TLX was taken from the 600 block of South Austin on Friday, Sept. 25, with an estimated value of $25,000. A black 2020 Nissan Altima was stolen from the 400 block of South Euclid the same day, valued at $33,000. Police said the means of theft was unknown in both cases.

A white 2022 Kia Sportage was also stolen from the 200 block of North Grove on Sept. 25. No loss estimate was available. A 2021 BMW X3 taken from the 1000 block of South Grove on Sept. 24 was recovered by the Chicago Police Department and returned to its owner.

The key fob had been left inside the vehicle.

Two more vehicles were targeted but not successfully stolen on Sept. 25. A Hyundai Accent on the 900 block of South Austin and a 2015 Kia Optima on the 1000 block of Lyman both had windows broken and steering columns damaged.

Weapon, battery arrests

On Sunday, Sept. 27, at 9:43 p.m., officers stopped Evan Hargrove, 31, of Country Club Hills, for a traffic violation on the 0–100 block of Washington. Police said Hargrove was found in possession of a handgun and charged him with unlawful possession of a weapon.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, at 9:52 p.m., Marquell Boyd, 37, of Oak Park, was stopped for a traffic violation on the 0–100 block of Lake and arrested for an expired driver's license and a domestic battery alleged to have occurred on Aug. 21.

Sabrina Wright, 58, of Bellwood, was arrested on Sept. 25 at 1100 Lake St. for a battery alleged to have occurred Sept. 10 on the 100 block of North Maple. Wright was also found to have three active Cook County warrants for battery, aggravated battery to a peace officer and battery.

Cortez Tarver, 51, of Oak Park, was arrested Sept. 25 on the 400 block of Madison on an active DuPage County warrant for obstructing and resisting.

Recovered vehicles, property damage

Chicago police recovered two previously stolen Oak Park vehicles during the report period. A white 2020 Honda Accord, reported stolen from the 100 block of Garfield on Sept. 24, was found Saturday, Sept. 26, at the 5300 block of West Chicago in Chicago. A grey 2019 Hyundai Elantra, stolen from the 0–100 block of Chicago Avenue on Sept. 22, was also recovered in Chicago. No arrests were made in either case.

The report also logged five criminal damage incidents involving vehicles. A silver Porsche 718 Boxster had its driver's side window broken on the 1000 block of Lake, with an estimated $4,000 in damage. Door handles were damaged on two Acura vehicles parked on Washington, a Dodge Challenger sunroof was damaged on the 0–100 block of South Boulevard and a Hyundai Tucson door handle was damaged on the 1000 block of Ontario.

All defendants have pending court dates and are considered innocent until proven guilty.
