Oak Park and River Forest High School students are earning college credit at a record clip. More than 91% of students who took Advanced Placement (AP) exams in spring 2026 scored a 3 or better on at least one test.
The results mark the fifth consecutive year of AP improvement at the District 200 school, according to OPRF. In 2022, 80% of AP test-takers cleared that threshold.
OPRF noted that many colleges and universities award credit for scores of 3 or higher on the 5-point scale. The district, led by Superintendent Greg Johnson, has framed the AP push as part of a broader strategy to graduate students with college credits already in hand.
The growth goes beyond pass rates. In spring 2026, 1,352 students sat for a combined 3,310 AP exams. Since 2022, the number of students taking AP tests has jumped 50%. The total number of tests taken has risen 83%, meaning students are also sitting for more exams apiece.
OPRF's first graduating class from its AP Capstone program also hit a milestone in the 2025-26 school year. Seventeen students earned the AP Capstone Diploma, a credential awarded to students who complete a two-year research sequence on top of standard AP coursework, according to the school's profile.
Roughly 25% of the Class of 2026 were named State Scholar Program finalists. Statewide, about 10% of graduating seniors earn that designation, according to OPRF.
The school's broader academic profile reinforces the trend. OPRF holds an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 94% graduation rate. It climbed 10 spots to 24th in Illinois in the fall 2026 U.S. News & World Report rankings, as reported by OakPark.com. Chicago magazine ranked OPRF sixth among suburban Cook County public high schools in September 2026.
No board presentation or community forum on the AP results has been scheduled.
