OPRF senior Lucy Stein closed her high school tennis career with a third-place finish at the IHSA Class 2A state tournament Oct. 22-24 in Buffalo Grove.

Stein, seeded third, beat Libertyville's Yuki Dogadalski 6-1, 6-1 in the third-place match on Saturday, Oct. 24, capping a 34-2 season and four consecutive years qualifying for state, as first reported by the Wednesday Journal.

The senior had set her sights on a state title after a quarterfinal appearance in 2024 and a fourth-place finish in 2025, according to the Wednesday Journal. She won four straight matches before falling to New Trier's Julia Ludwig 6-1, 2-6, 5-7 in the semifinals on Friday, Oct. 23.

"I just told myself on Saturday that it was a new day and I was going to put the semifinal match in the past," Stein told the Wednesday Journal.

Stein said she was happy that her state finish improved each year. OPRF coach Fred Galluzzo said Stein recovered well after a difficult semifinal loss.

Galluzzo said Stein had been the team's leader for two years and praised her competitiveness over a four-year career.

In the team standings, OPRF tied for ninth with Maine South.

Both teams finished with 15 points.

Looking ahead

Freshman Zoe Glennie gave OPRF a glimpse of the program's future. She qualified for state and won her opening match over Calla Graham of Moline 6-1, 6-2 before losing to Dogadalski in the second round 0-6, 1-6.

Glennie won a consolation match over Naperville North's Makaeylynn Waller-Li 7-6, 4-6, 10-1 before Hinsdale Central's Myra Shaikh eliminated her 1-6, 0-6.

Stein said she was proud of Glennie for reaching state and predicted strong results over the next three years.

OPRF's top doubles team of senior Ava Lebovitz and junior Ella Rangsithienchai went 1-2 at state. They lost their opener to Wheaton-Warrenville South's Kelsey Clousing and Priya Rozanski 1-6, 2-6, won a consolation match, then fell to Fremd's Stella Lee and Siya Mistry 4-6, 6-7.

Galluzzo said the experience would benefit Rangsithienchai, who returns next season.

Fenwick seniors Lucy Gruber and Emma Louderback also competed in doubles, going 1-2. They lost their opener to Stevenson 1-6, 1-6, won a consolation match 6-3, 6-1, then fell to Nidhi Karekar and Ella Kestner 1-6, 2-6.

Rangsithienchai and Glennie lead OPRF's returning roster heading into next fall.
