River Forest Township is adding chair yoga, arts and crafts, and Zumba to its weekly lineup of free activities for older adults at the RFCCA Building on Madison Street, building out a July–September 2026 calendar that already includes chess and mahjong.
The programs are open to older adults in both River Forest and Oak Park. No fee, no referral required.
The township's July 17 senior newsletter, signed by Township Supervisor John Becvar, announced the expanded schedule. "All these programs are completely free, but some do require registration and are limited to a certain number of participants," Becvar wrote.
What's on the calendar
Two drop-in programs run weekly with no registration:
- Chess — Tuesdays, 3–5 p.m., led by Chris Savaiano
- Mahjong — Thursdays, 1–3 p.m., led by Liz Ziehl
Three new programs require registration. Call the Township Older Adult program hotline at 708-725-9129 to sign up:
- Arts & Crafts — Mondays, beginning Monday, August 10
- Chair Yoga — Wednesdays, new session beginning Wednesday, August 5
- Zumba — Fridays; time change for July (call 708-725-9129 for the current schedule)
All activities take place at the RFCCA Building, 8020 Madison St., River Forest.
Built on resident input
The expansion follows a January 2026 survey in which the township asked residents what types of programming and scheduling they wanted. At that time, the township had been offering chess, dominoes, mahjong, pickleball, and Zumba. The additions of arts and crafts and chair yoga reflect that feedback, according to the township's website.
The RFCCA Building also houses the River Forest Community Center, Opportunity Knocks, and the D200 CITE Program, among other organizations.
How to participate
