A man grabbed a woman on a busy stretch of North Harlem Avenue in broad daylight Saturday, July 11, one of at least 13 incidents the Oak Park Police Department logged over a five-day span that included warrant arrests, a string of overnight rock-throwing vandalism, and two vehicle thefts.
The battery occurred at 3:25 p.m. in the 400 block of N. Harlem, according to the OPD summary report covering Thursday, July 9 through Monday, July 13. An unknown male approached the Oak Park resident and grabbed her buttocks, then walked southbound, according to the report. No arrest has been made. The complaint is filed as case 26-03738.
Warrant arrests on Roosevelt Road
On Thursday, July 9, at 8:55 p.m., officers made two warrant arrests in the 6300 block of Roosevelt Road. Donald D. Carter, 19, of the 500 block of S. Central Avenue in Chicago, was taken into custody on an active Cook County warrant for failure to appear on a retail theft charge. Carter was also charged with a previous retail theft in Oak Park. Pianche Guidry-Watkins, 37, of the 1000 block of S. Humphrey Avenue in Oak Park, was arrested on a separate active Cook County warrant. Court dates for both have not been released.
Criminal trespass, stolen vehicle recovered
At 3:56 a.m. Friday, July 10, Jose Ocasio, 28, of the 500 block of W. Kinzie Street in Chicago, was arrested for criminal trespass to a residence in the 1000 block of North Boulevard.
Also on Friday, July 10, Illinois State Police recovered a Honda Odyssey at the 4800 block of West Chicago Avenue on Chicago's West Side. The vehicle had been reported stolen Tuesday, July 7, from the 200 block of Lake Street in Oak Park. No one was apprehended.
Thefts and vehicle damage
An unattended iPhone worth an estimated $1,300 was stolen from the 6200 block of Roosevelt Road at 6:17 p.m. Friday, July 10. The victim was a Chicago resident.
Between Friday night, July 10, and Saturday afternoon, July 11, someone damaged the driver-side rear window of a 2023 Nissan Rogue parked in the 200 block of N. Austin Avenue. Estimated damage: $600.
A black 2018 Mazda CX-9 valued at $10,000 was stolen from the 6700 block of Roosevelt Road between 7:00 and 7:45 p.m. Sunday, July 12.
Overnight rock-throwing spree
Five properties were hit with thrown rocks in the early hours of Sunday, July 12, between midnight and 6 a.m. Targets included a residence on the 200 block of Chicago Avenue ($950 in damage), Carlson Animal Hospital at 414 Lake Street, a home on the 400 block of N. Taylor Avenue ($300), a building on the 300 block of S. Ridgeland Avenue, and a residence on the 400 block of S. Elmwood Avenue ($1,000). At the Elmwood address, surveillance video captured a male picking up rocks and breaking two vestibule windows before heading east on Washington Street. The OPD report lists the incidents as separate complaints and has not stated whether they are connected.
All individuals named in the OPD report are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
