Five OPRF seniors scored in an 8-0 rout of Proviso West on senior night Oct. 7, as first reported by The Trapeze.

The win pushed the Huskies to 8-8-1 overall and 2-2 in the West Suburban Silver conference.

Before kickoff, parents, students and coaches lined up to applaud each senior as they stood on the OPRF logo at midfield. Then the Huskies put on a show.

Chris Denneen and Jack Trask each found the net twice. Senior captain Noah Barnett, Joaquin Carlstrom and Rager Wilson added a goal apiece. Junior Gibson Lundgren rounded out the scoring. Senior goalkeeper Liam O'Shea was in goal for the shutout.

Carlstrom, the team's second-leading scorer last season and a West Suburban Silver All-Conference selection, continued his strong senior campaign with his goal.

The Huskies jumped out fast, tallying two early goals before two more were called back for offside. They tacked on two more before halftime and controlled the second half.

Coach Dave Bernthal said the team "moved the ball around the field, which stretched the opponent and opened up passing lanes that led to goal scoring opportunities."

Bernthal said the seniors did a great job leading the charge and expressed confidence the Huskies can challenge every opponent as conference play continues.

The result marked a climb from early October, when OPRF sat at 6-7 overall and 1-1 in conference, according to a Trapeze report published Oct. 1. The Huskies entered the season with 13 returnees from a squad that went 19-3 and reached the IHSA Class 3A sectional final before falling to Lane Tech.

Senior captain Cole Grining captured the team's conference mentality in a September interview with the Wednesday Journal: "No conference game is a given … It's being mentally prepared. It's chippy. It's always a war, never 100% friendly."

OPRF was scheduled to face Downers Grove North on Oct. 8 in their next West Suburban Silver matchup, followed by Lyons Township on Tuesday, Oct. 13.
