Bakers who want to compete at the Oak Park Farmers' Market Pie Bake-Off have until Wednesday, Sept. 9, to apply.

The contest takes place Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Pilgrim Congregational Church parking lot at 460 Lake St., where the market runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. through Nov. 14. Contestants must create a pie featuring ingredients purchased from market vendors.

The Village of Oak Park announced the open application period on X on Wednesday, Aug. 26, directing would-be contestants to the official application page. Rules and the entry form are posted there.

The Bake-Off first appeared in 2017, according to the Village's OP/FYI newsletter. It is one of several seasonal events at the market, which also hosts an annual Corn Roast in August and a Stone Soup event on the final market day in November.

The Oak Park Farmers' Market was co-founded in 1976 by community members Marge Gockel and Carla Lind. It first opened on North Boulevard before moving to the Pilgrim Church lot in 1978. Today the market features more than two dozen independent farmers and producers selling fresh produce, meat, fish, cheese, eggs, flowers, bread and honey, along with on-site donuts and live bluegrass music.

All eligible vendors accept LINK benefits. A majority also accept credit and debit cards and senior coupons.

The 2026 season runs two extra weeks compared to prior years, stretching 26 Saturdays through Nov. 14.
