Oak Park police arrested a Chicago woman on a DUI charge at 5:40 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, on North Avenue. The arrest was one of three and seven total incidents logged across two OPD activity reports covering Aug. 22–26.
DUI arrest
Mishell Tora-Cortez, 25, of the 5900 block of W. Walton in Chicago, was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol on the 6300 block of North Avenue, according to the OPD summary report.
Domestic battery arrest
Arell L. Washington Jr., 26, of the 1400 block of S. Karlov in Chicago, was arrested at 5:02 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, on the 1100 block of S. Lombard. He faces charges of domestic battery and criminal damage to property stemming from an incident on Sunday, April 12, 2026. The report does not explain the gap between the April offense date and the August arrest.
Criminal damage arrest
Diego A. Olivas, 21, of the 700 block of Fair Oaks in Oak Park, was arrested at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, for criminal damage to property on the 700 block of Fair Oaks.
Retail thefts
Three retail thefts were reported at Oak Park stores:
- Walgreens, 6412 Roosevelt Road — At 7:10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, a male subject removed six OxiClean laundry detergents valued at $89.92 and fled north on Ridgeland on a blue Divvy bike.
- Barnes & Noble, 1144 Lake St. — Between 2:10 p.m. and 2:18 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, a male subject removed two Virtual Pet kids toys valued at $89.99 and exited without paying.
- Dollar Tree, 6226 Roosevelt Road — At 2:59 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25, a male subject removed batteries valued at $132 and left without paying, according to the Aug. 25–26 OPD report.
Vehicle crimes
A vehicle burglary occurred on the 800 block of N. Elmwood between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 22. Someone entered a 2024 Ford F-150 through a possibly unlocked door and took a knife, checkbooks, a garage remote and $100 in cash. Estimated loss: $130.
A second vehicle burglary was reported on the 900 block of Ontario on Tuesday, Aug. 25. Someone shattered the rear window of a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee, ransacked the interior and damaged the steering column. Estimated damage: $700.
E-bike theft
An unsecured Mac-Fox e-bike valued at $900 was stolen from the 600 block of South Blvd. between 4:40 p.m. and 5:05 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25. The bike had been left leaning against a light pole.
Stolen vehicle recovered
A 2026 Chrysler Pacifica reported stolen or not returned from Enterprise Leasing on June 23 was recovered at 11:45 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24, by the Lombard Police Department on the 1000 block of N. Lombard in Lombard.
No arrests were made.
The OPD reports state that all arrested individuals have pending court dates and that all defendants are considered innocent until proven guilty.
