Some of the artists behind the roughly 230 mini murals lining Oak Park's Green Line embankment will meet the public face-to-face this evening, June 26, at Cheney Mansion.

The Oak Park Area Arts Council and the Park District of Oak Park are co-hosting "Beyond the Walls: The Art Behind Oak Park's Mini Murals" from 6 to 8 p.m. at the historic landmark at 220 N. Euclid Ave. The event, now in its second year, is limited to adults 21 and older and requires paid registration, with $15 of each ticket going directly to the Arts Council. Full pricing is listed at pdop.org.

Attendees will meet muralists who painted works along the concrete retaining walls on North Boulevard and South Boulevard, stretching from downtown Oak Park to the CTA Green Line's Austin station. The artists will display miniature canvas versions of their large-scale pieces and discuss the stories behind the work. The evening includes light bites and drinks including beer, wine and soda, and ends with a raffle for one of the miniature canvases.

The Arts Council has commissioned 20 to 30 new murals per year since 2010, paying artists $1,500 per piece, according to a Chicago Sun-Times profile of the program published in February. Executive Director Camille Wilson White told the Sun-Times: "We are proud of these murals. People love them."

Tickets are available at pdop.org. The event takes place inside Cheney Mansion, a 1913 Charles E. White Jr.-designed home deeded to the Park District in 1975 and designated a local landmark in 2004.
