Oak Park residents can weigh in on Climate Ready Oak Park, the village's long-range climate plan, at a public conversation Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Oak Park Public Library.

The Office of Sustainability and Resilience is hosting the event in the Veteran's Room at 834 Lake St., according to the Village Manager's weekly report. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., and the program runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Chief Sustainability Officer Lindsey Roland-Nieratka will open with a progress update on Climate Ready Oak Park, the village's comprehensive plan for building a more sustainable and climate-resilient community, according to the library's event listing. After the presentation, attendees can share feedback and talk with village staff and community partners who co-organized the event. Light refreshments will be served.

The conversation comes less than a week after the Village Board adopted the Biodiversity and Green Infrastructure Plan at its Aug. 26 meeting. That plan, developed by the Office of Sustainability and Resilience in partnership with Greenprint Partners, measures the village's progress toward a goal set in 2022: establishing 30% of Oak Park's land as green infrastructure or enhanced management by 2030. The village adopted that target as part of Climate Ready Oak Park, known as CROP.

Beyond measuring progress, the plan also guides future policies and programs to help the community meet the 30% goal. The full document is available on the village's Engage Oak Park page.

Also from the Village Manager's report, the Oak Park Farmers' Market Pie Bake-Off is accepting applications for its Sept. 19 contest, as we reported Aug. 27. The competition, which debuted in 2017, requires entries made with ingredients from the market. The deadline to enter or apply to judge is Sept. 9.
