Savannah Lumar, a 13-year-old Oak Park resident, plays Young Kiara in the final season of Netflix's Outer Banks, which debuted Aug. 20.

The role caps a rapid rise for Lumar, who got her start at Ovation Academy for the Performing Arts on Madison Street. She enrolled in a summer camp there that launched her professional career, the Wednesday Journal reported on Aug. 24.

Within a few years, Lumar booked the role of Young Elsa on the North American tour of Disney's Frozen. She joined the touring cast in August 2023, alternating the role with Erin Choi, according to Playbill. The tour ran through Sept. 1, 2024, playing 1,225 performances in 62 cities.

Since then, Lumar has moved into screen work. She plays Young Lucy in the Amazon Prime Video series Scarpetta, which premiered March 11 alongside Nicole Kidman and Ariana DeBose. She also appears in the 2025 Superman film directed by James Gunn.

Her mother, Casey Tencate, credits Oak Park's arts community for making the career possible. Tencate told the Wednesday Journal that talented kids in areas without similar programs don't get the same chances. "Oak Park is definitely a huge part of why she was able to get where she's at now," she said.

Tencate said she spotted her daughter's talent early. As a toddler, Lumar would climb onto the family's dining room table and sing songs from Frozen.

The career hasn't changed daily life much. Lumar still attends middle school locally, and many of her friends didn't know she was acting when they first met her. She described herself as living a normal life, with classmates only recently taking notice of her screen credits.

Ovation Academy, founded in October 2014, operates as the resident performing arts company of Madison Street Theatre at 1010 Madison St. It offers year-round training to students ages 4 to 18.

Lumar's next ambition: a horror movie. She takes inspiration from the Scream franchise and told the Wednesday Journal she hopes to keep performing for the rest of her life.
