Oak Park and River Forest families can lace up together on Thursday, Aug. 13, when the OPRF High School cross-country programs host their third annual Night of Miles at the school's track and field stadium.
The evening starts at 5 p.m. with races scaled by age, according to oakpark.com: a 100-meter dash for kindergartners through second-graders, a 400-meter dash for grades three through five, and a one-mile run for middle schoolers in grades six through eight. Adults and older residents can join a one-mile community walk or a one-mile community run.
Entry is open to all ages.
The event doubles as the unofficial start of the OPRF cross-country season, organized by boys' head coach Chris Baldwin and girls' head coach Ashley Raymond. A rain date is set for Friday, Aug. 14.
Early registration closes Saturday
Participants who complete registration by Saturday, Aug. 1, are guaranteed their preferred T-shirt size. After that date, shirts will be available but sizes are not guaranteed.
The Night of Miles debuted in 2024 and returned for a second edition in August 2025, when the event featured races for grades one through five, a middle-school mile, and open community runs.
How to participate
Registration is open now at oprfhs.revtrak.net. Residents with questions can contact Coach Baldwin at [email protected]. The stadium is located on the OPRF High School campus.
