The Oak Park Art League is overhauling its class registration system this fall, and the 105-year-old organization wants students to know: sign up for Summer 2 before the new deadlines kick in.

Registration for Summer 2 adult classes and figure drawing workshops opened July 13 through OPAL's website. The league is also enforcing registration deadlines for the first time. The cutoff for Summer 2 is Saturday, August 1, at 5 p.m.

Starting with the Fall 1 session, OPAL will move to an entirely new registration and membership platform. The organization said in a July 12 announcement that the switch will make signing up "easier and more intuitive" while opening the door to new member benefits. OPAL has not named the new platform, saying only that more details are coming.

The deadline policy is new. Previously, students could register on a rolling basis. Going forward, each session will carry a firm cutoff date.

A busy anniversary year

The platform change arrives during OPAL's 105th anniversary, a year board member Colleen Campbell has called "a season of momentum." The league has mounted a BLOOM juried exhibition, a Summer Sculpture Exhibition, a Gallery After Dark series, and a year-long poetry project since January.

OPAL has operated out of its carriage house at 720 Chicago Ave. since 1938. Members receive discounted class fees, and pre-registration is required for all courses.
